POV bike ride through NYC ending in a giant Brat flag drop. A tribute to Charli XCX and a technical study in large-scale cloth simulation.
3D animation, texturing & 3D modelling.
This personal animation project was born out of my love for Charli XCX’s Brat album and the vibrant, high energy world she and her collaborators have created. I imagined a surreal, fast-paced bike ride through New York City, moving past a SWEAT Tour poster, catching a glimpse of a billboard for Shygirl’s Club Shy Room 2, and culminating in a dramatic moment where a massive Brat flag drops down the side of a building.
This animation was also an opportunity to experiment with large-scale cloth simulation in a dynamic, outdoor environment. I wanted to challenge myself with the technical aspects of simulating realistic fabric behavior, from wind interaction to collision against a tall structure, while keeping the visuals stylized and emotionally charged.
The scale and motion of the falling flag was a key focus of the project and pushed my understanding of animation timing, weight and render optimization.
After refining the scene layout, motion timing, and cloth sim settings, the final animation captures the moment when the hype becomes real, a massive Brat flag cascading down a building, set against the backdrop of a neon-lit NYC street. The visuals echo the bold, chaotic energy of the album and celebrate the culture surrounding it.
